Havel Strikes Chords With Washingtonian Overtones

In music there is a particular phenomenon called the "overtone" which occurs when, for example, as particular note or chord is played on a piano, a sympathetic vibration is heard in corresponding strings, generated by resonant frequency from the playing of the initial note or chord. At some point during my reading of Václav Havel's political speeches I began to experience a similar sympathetic vibration mentally, but I couldn't place where the vibration was coming from inside my head. ...

For years I tried keeping a diary with little success. About four years ago I started my first electronic journal and continue to update it to this day. Other blogging projects have had fits and starts, hot and cold periods, but overall I find blogging/electronic journaling more engaging than writing by hand. Perhaps it’s the modern samizdat aspect of blogging that is so attractive and the ability to link to different types of media, different sources of inspiration, different ideas what makes it so dynamic.
